It features a unique event called a “Wild horse race” which features several teams of three individuals penning a horse without a bridle or saddle. The winner is the team that gets a rider on the horse and is able to ride a lap around the arena.Eastern Idaho State Fair happens the first week of September in Blackfoot, ID (30 minutes south of Idaho Falls). If you are here in spring through early fall try a horse back ride, gravel bike (road bike with mountain bike tires) ride, or ATV ride with one of the many outfitters around Island Park. If you are here in the winter give snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, or fat tire mountain biking a try in Island Park or West Yellowstone with an outfitter. Jackson Hole is world renowned for downhill skiing, however, don’t miss out on the Grand Targhee resort which has epic powder, value priced beginner packages, and seldom has crowds.
