Central Adirondack Lakefront Solar Cabin Johnson Pond is located 15 minutes north of the town of Schroon Lake in the heart of the Central Adirondacks. Schroon has grocery, hardware, dining and a movie theatre. There is a gas station with staples five minutes from the cabin. Keene Valley and Keene are 25-30 minutes northwest by car and Lake Placid is 40 minutes, all surrounded by hundreds of Adirondack hiking trails with some trails only minutes away. The two-story cabin was hand-crafted and built out by family members with beautiful wide-plank hardwood floors and wood detailing and is approx. 1500 square feet with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, (one private bath off the master bedroom with clawfoot tub, and one shared bathroom with shower, both on the second floor). The Chef's kitchen has a large island for cooking, a large fridge, a six-burner stovetop range, an oven and an outdoor gas grill. There is ample cupboard and food storage areas, and the pantry is fully stocked with all cooking necessities. There is a proper dining area off the kitchen which seats six and another dining area on the front porch. The house has two amazing screened-in porches, one runs the width of the house on the front and has a dining area, sitting area and brass bed. The second porch is off the master bedroom nestled in a cathedral of trees. The master bedroom has multiple windows on three sides, the middle bedroom has two windows on one side and a closet and the third bedroom is on the corner with windows on two sides and a closet. Two beds are queens and the middle one is a full-size. PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID, we are asking guests to provide linens and towels. The water is well and we have installed a filtration system to eliminate the naturally-occurring sulfur that is unpleasant to some guests. We use the well for washing dishes and cooking. There is a standup Sparkletts drinking water station, which we operate on an honors system for guests to manage for themselves and replenish for future guests. There are two living room areas for socializing and relaxing. There is a TV with DVD player. There are some DVDs onsite, feel free to bring your own. There is Wi-Fi for email and text (phone calls are out of range on smart devices) and a landline phone for calls. A beautiful hand-crafted walkway leads down to the beach with dock and diving board and a small boathouse with canoe, kayak and standup paddle board. The solar panels can run for approx. two to three days with good weather and efficient usage. Once the backup generator kicks on, it will charge in about four hours and should add another two days of power, dependent on weather. This is a very beautiful and remote place. Because it is off-grid, there are only eight or nine small cabins on the whole pond and you often do not see or hear others for days, sometimes weeks at a time. If you are looking for peace and solitude while you fall asleep to the sounds of the loons, it does not get any better than this.
