Farmhouse Transport yourself back to simpler times at our historic retreat, Seldom Seen Farm, setting of beloved local author Ben Logan's acclaimed book "The Land Remembers." This is a rare opportunity to experience the charm of the original 1800s log cabin farmhouse that has been carefully restored and curated with touches of old world nostalgia and modern comfort. Enjoy expansive views of the Kickapoo River Valley and discover what it means to become one with the living land. The spaceMake your way along the unearthed garden stone path to the front door, opening to gorgeous black walnut wood floors and a charming little powder room on the right. To the left is the original hearth room with exposed log-hewn walls, a cozy spot to read and relax or enjoy conversation around the stone fireplace.Behind is a double bedroom and entrance to the upstairs loft with a small bedroom, efficiency bathroom, and an entertainment den.The master bedroom is on the first floor, featuring a queen-sized bed framed by hewn beams, windows overlooking beautiful views of the valley, and a modernized bathroom with sliding barn door. The dining room boasts a second stone fireplace and antique light fixture with room for 6+ around the table.A quaint eat-in kitchen with old oak cabinets is equipped with everything you need to prepare delicious meals during your stay. Delight in watching the many diverse species of birds that visit the feeders as you enjoy your morning coffee.Out back, a charcoal grill and a wood deck with twinkly lights creates a magical setting for outdoor dining. On the property you'll find an impressive organic garden where you are welcome to pick herbs and produce to utilize during your stay. Wander throughout the yard to view many historic farm buildings and grazing cows in the pasture. Share stories and s'mores around the fire pit.In accordance with Ben Logan's wishes, the 100+ acres of the property are protected by a conservation easement with the Mississippi Valley Conservancy, ensuring that the restored prairie, pasture, and woodlands will remain as farmland in perpetuity.Guest accessGuests are able to access the whole house except for the locked basement and upstairs storage room. The indoor fireplaces are decorative only. Additionally, all outside buildings are locked for guest safety. Access to the woods is unavailable due to the grazing cattle. Please do not enter the pasture. You may occasionally see the farmer moving the cattle to a different grazing site, but he will not be anywhere near the private areas of the property.Other things to noteThere is no wifi on the property, so we hope you will use this stay as an excuse to unplug and enjoy the tranquility of the house and surrounding area. However, we have provided a TV and some DVDs if digital entertainment is a must. The Driftless Region of Wisconsin provides many opportunities for outdoor adventures including bubbling trout streams, UTV trails, kayaking, foraging, rock climbing, Wyalusing State Park, and many other protected natural areas where wildlife is lush and abundant. The farmhouse is centrally located within an hour's drive to many eclectic towns with great shops and restaurants including Viroqua, La Crosse, Prairie du Chien, Spring Green, Marquette, IA, and more. While the house is fully operable and comfortable, please know that the restoration is a work-in-progress and you may encounter some quirks that come with such an old property. Additionally, the stairs going to the loft are quite steep and may not be appropriate for some health-compromised folks.Additional rulesAdditional guests beyond the names on the reservation are generally not allowed. Special events, commercial photography and filming is strictly prohibited unless an arrangement is approved. Before you leaveGather used towelsThrow trash awayLock up
