Michigan City Family Friendly Lakehouse Escape Enjoy a relaxing stay at one of the best beaches on fresh water Lake Michigan in our century old former fisherman's cottage updated to fit today's lifestyle. This 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house is perfect for large or extended families looking to relax and enjoy a few days away but still close to restaurants and other activities.Enjoy your morning coffee lounging on our large deck under the canopy of towering pine trees. Spend the day swimming at the beach and then head back to cook great gourmet meals in our new, fully equipped kitchen and enjoy the conversation around our 8 seater round table. After dinner, gather around our fire pit for smores under the colors of the beautiful Lake Michigan sunset, or catchup in our breezy, screened-in sunroom.Beach AccessAcross the street from the house is the Sheridan Beach Stop 11 access path. The path is about 200 yards through natural sand dune vegetation to the wide, clean, sandy beach. This is step-free access (NO STAIRS) to the water - it is a nice and easy walk in both directions and you can see why people have been coming here for a hundred years to just about the best beach in the Midwest.We provide a beach wagon to haul coolers / gear and we have four chairs for your use along with a bunch of sand toys and even a kite! Its close enough to make multiple trips if needed.Sleeping QuartersWe have three bedrooms each with its own feel, all with blackout curtains for late risers. There is a bright and cozy front bedroom that sleeps two in a queen side bed with views of the lake. Our middle room sleeps two in twin bunk beds and has a comfy bean bag chair and a built in work station for a little work or games. The main bedroom has a king size bed and a private ensuite full bathroom.Kitchen and BathsThe kitchen and both bathrooms were fully renovated within the last 2 years with a modern and luxury feel. In the kitchen, we have all the utensils, cookware, plates to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner for your entire group. Our kitchen has a full size refrigerator with ice maker, full size dishwasher, five burner oven range, full size microwave, coffee maker and toaster. We provide dishwasher soap, paper towels and hand soap for your stay and light cleaning products.Each bathroom has a fullsize tub and shower and we provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash for your stay.Outdoor SpacesWe updated our outdoor spaces in 2022 so you can enjoy our spacious new deck with two double chaise loungers and club chairs. For outdoor dining, we have a propane grill in our open air pavilion and enjoy alfresco dining around our 10' table and designer chairs. Our side yard has space for kids to play and to have a fire at night. We provide firewood for your stay.Local AttractionsOur house can be your base of action for numerous activities besides hitting the beach with activities such as boat rentals, fishing charters, sky diving and paintball all being popular. The Indiana Dunes National Park is close by with numerous hiking and biking trails through the protected sand dunes. Famous and quaint New Buffalo, Michigan is about 10 minutes by car and there are numerous wineries, breweries and distilleries within short driving distances. Starting in Michigan City and heading up the Lake Michigan shoreline, you will find numerous antique dealers and other interesting shops, all the way up to St Joseph, Michigan. If you're feeling lucky, Blue Chip Casino is minutes away.The farmer's market is open Saturdays June to October from 8am to 12pm at 8th St and Washington in downtown Michigan City. Every Thursday night during the summer, there is a free public concert in Washington Park. Of course, there are several public and private golf courses nearby too.The local restaurant scene is good and growing. Please check our guidebook for the latest recommendations.Kids StuffWe have small children and we keep our house with them in mind. We have a Pack & Play onsite and a Bumbo high chair seat. We keep cabinet locks in the kitchen drawers and we have a wide selection of games, activities and sand toys. We have kids plates and cups for worry free eating and we also keep a spare twin mattress under the bunk beds you can pull out, if needed, for a small child not comfortable on the top bunk.Down the street from the house is the Washington Park Zoo and a number of playgrounds. Within short driving distances there are a number of orchards and berry farms for picking apples, blueberries, etc. Michigan City has a skate board park nearby and several other past times for the older kids.Getting HereMost of our guests drive, but Michigan City does have train service available. Both Chicago and South Bend (Notre Dame games) are reachable by the SouthShore Electric in about an hour. Uber is available in Michigan City, but expect longer wait times than other urban areas.Other Things- 400 MB Wifi- Free parking for 3 vehicles- 2 HD TVs both with Roku streaming services- Keyless entry- Firewood provided (within reason please).- No Laundry at this time (sorry the basement is not ready).
