Secluded Cabin in the Woods **Minimum Night Stay Requirements May Vary and Final Availability is Subject to Homeowner Approval.*****Property may be rented once in any 31 day period.***If you’ve ever dreamt about spending a night surrounded by the collection of the National Museum of Wildlife Art, the Rocking V is the vacation home for you. It’s also the home for you if you don’t know a Bob Kuhn painting from a piece by Albert Bierstadt but have always wanted you own log cabin in the woods, or if you’ve ever dreamt of your own private fishing spot.About a 10-minute drive down Fall Creek Road—a winding, scenic, rural road from which you might see either moose or cattle, or both—from the community of Wilson, Rocking V is a thoughtfully designed, lovely log home. You walk in the front door and make your way to the great room and see paintings by Nancy Glazier, Ken Carlson, Scott Christensen, and Lanford Monroe—all of whom have work in the NMWA’s permanent collection and are represented by art galleries in Jackson. That’s when the Rocking V is no longer just a lovely log cabin and great fishing spot, but also your private museum. The Rocking V’s owners support their art collection with traditional western décor—an elk antler chandelier hangs over the main dining table; the cathedral ceilings reveal intricate log work and giant log beams; some chairs and stools have rawhide seats; chaps, creels, and leather saddles are on display; wood burning fireplaces in the great room and master suite have impressive surrounds puzzled together of natural rock; and wall sconces feature moose, bison, elk, and bears. (The home’s four bathrooms are each themed around a different wild animal that lives in the valley.)This is one of the few Jackson Hole homes in which you notice what’s inside before you notice what’s out the windows. Tucked into forested lot on a hillside above the Snake River, the Rocking V is more about intimate views than grand vistas of the surrounding mountain ranges. Still, you can see the Tetons through a wall of windows in the great room and, using the homeowner’s telescope, in summer you might even spot climbers on the summit of the Grand Teton. In winter you can watch the tram at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort deliver skiers to the top of Rendezvous Peak. You can also move the telescope outside the nearby deck and stargaze.Along with the great room—which is an open space that combines the kitchen, dining, and living areas—the main floor also has the master suite and a newly re-decorated media room/office/den.Not unexpectedly, the master suite is the only private space to display serious artwork (most of the collection is in the home’s public spaces). The master is also the only suite with a walk-in steam shower. While the main floor is at ground level when you enter the house, since the Rocking V is built into a hillside, it transitions to the second floor by the time you’re at the far side of the great room. A door between the kitchen and dining area opens onto a large deck facing the Tetons.Three guestrooms are on the lower level. While none of these rooms have direct access to the backyard, all have ample light, especially the corner suite immediately at the bottom of the stairs. Between the second and third guest suites is an indoor hot tub and also a door to the outside.Wilson, the nearest community to Rocking V, has several restaurants, the historic Stagecoach Bar, an outpost of locals’ favorite Pearl Street Bagels, a ski/bike shop, and Hungry Jack’s General Store, which sells everything from canoes to Carhartts and handmade caramels. Wilson is at the base of Teton Pass and a 15- to 20-minute drive to both Jackson and Teton Village.
