If you hop on the ferry there it will take you to Ocracoke. https://ferry.ncdot.gov/#/The Davis Ferry terminal is 15 minutes away in the other direction and will take you to Cape Lookout National Seashore. There are beautiful beaches and a lighthouse. You can take your 4x4 vehicle across or rent a side by side to take over and get around. https://cape-lookout-cabins-camps-ferry-davis-nc.com/ferry-south-core-banks-cape-lookout-ncAtlantic Beach is 45 minutes away. There you will find Fort Macon where you can tour the actual fort, hang at the beach or take a walk on one of the trails. The town of Atlantic beach also has beautiful beaches and some great restaurants!
