Historic Thompson House Thompson House is historic, quirky, unique and comfortable. It survived the 1964 9.2 earthquake and tsunami that caused Old Valdez to relocate to the new and present town site. An addition more than doubled the size of the original one room cabin which included an extensive remodel.The house sleeps 6. There are three bedrooms and a half bath upstairs, the master with a queen bed, the second with three twins, and a twin in the tower recommended for anyone over the age of 12. There are no doors separating each space. There are two futons available downstairs if needed to sleep more than six. The full bath and sauna are steps apart on the main floor.Newly refurbished, Thompson House offers Wi fi, TV, blue ray player, new kitchen appliances, microwave, washer, dryer, freezer, on demand water heater and Toyo heater. No need to chop and haul wood! There is off street parking in front of the house.Centrally located, it is only steps to one of the two grocery stores in town, a few blocks to the harbor, a bank and ATM, restaurants, museums, art shops, gift shops, harbor drive, beaches, ponds and down town. At the end of the Bremner St, where the house sits, you'll find a park strip with the Buccaneer Pirate Ship playground. The college is the home to the Maxine Whitney Museum and just behind it is another playground called the Treehouse park. Valdez is a small and very cute town. You'll find the locals to be friendly, kind and helpful.Choose from the many fishing guides and out fitters, kayak rentals, excursions to the glaciers, and extensive wild life on land and in the sea. The beauty of the mountains surrounds the town with waterfalls everywhere.
