Women’s rights have come a long way in the past 200 years, and even though there’s still a long way to go, when we take a look back on how women used to live, it’s a real eye-opener.
The Moral Encyclopaedia, written by Mr Charles Varle (a man of course), gives all of the guidelines women were expected to follow back in the 1800s.
Here are some of the rules women had to live by back in 1830:
1. Avoid everything masculine.
No lifting and definitely no drinking.
