Those closest to the former Wham! singer have finally learned of his cause of death, almost three months after he passed away.
Despite several rumours that George Michael died from a drug overdose or alcohol abuse, it’s now been revealed in the coroner’s report that the superstar died from natural causes.
The coroner responsible for the inquest revealed,
Enquires into the death of George Michael have been concluded and the final post mortem report received. As there is a confirmed natural cause of death, being Dilated Cardiomyopathy with Myocarditis and Fatty Liver, the investigation is being discontinued and there is no need for an inquest or any further enquiries, the statement from Senior Coroner for Oxfordshire reads. No further updates will be provided and the family requests the media and public respect their privacy.
The ‘Careless Whisper’ singer tragically died on Christmas Day of last year, at the age of just 53.
The star’s rep confirmed that he passed away peacefully at home in bed.
A statement issued at the time read,
It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peaceful at home over the Christmas period. The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage.
The investigation into the much-loved singer’s cause of death has been a tough one.
An initial autopsy came back as inconclusive, and although his death was not thought of as suspicious, there had to be further tests to determine why the British artist died.
Michael’s partner Fadi Fawaz was the one to discover him unconscious in their bed.
Once the tragic news had broke, Fawaz tweeted saying, ‘It’s a xmas i will never forget finding your partner dead peacefully in bed first thing in the morning. I will never stop missing you xx.’
Plans can now get underway for the singer’s funeral, with his former partner Kenny Goss recently saying, ‘We just want closure, we want the funeral to happen, it’s been a long time now. I think his body just gave up. All these years, it was just weak.’
