He might be the former President of the United States – and seeing as she’s a leading presidential candidate, she might also be following in her husbands footsteps, but that doesn’t mean their love story isn’t like everyone else’s.

These two love birds have faced all sorts of controversy, including an affair with former White House Intern, Monica Lewinsky (aptly titled the ‘Lewinsky Scandal’) but the political power couple are still together over 40 years later!

During an hour long speech at the second day of the Democratic National Convention, he recalled how he first met Hillary at Yale Law School four years before marrying her.

“In the spring of 1971, I met a girl…The first time I saw her we were, appropriately enough, in a class on political and civil rights. She exuded this sense of strength.”

After explaining he was a bundle of nerves and unable to approach her, he revealed that it was Hillary who made the first move in the University’s library!

He told of how Hillary walked up to him and said: “Look, if you’re going to keep staring at me, and I’m staring back, we at least outta know each other’s names.” We can totally imagine Hillary doing something as ballsy as that, which is of course why she is now in the front-running to becoming the next President – and America’s first female leader.

He finished by summing up their relationship and how it took three attempts before she finally agreed to marry him! He remarked:

“The third time was the charm. I married my best friend. I was still in awe after more than four years of being around her of how strong and smart and loving and caring she was. Hillary is uniquely qualified to seize the opportunity. She is still the best darn change maker I have ever known.”
